Reassessing the Frontiers:

Ethnicity, Globalization and the Kingdom of God

September 21-23, 2010 (in conjunction with the North American Mission Leaders Conference)

Charlotte, N.C. (at the Country Inn & Suites http://www.countryinns.com/isfm)

In a centennial year of global mission gatherings from Capetown to Tokyo, the mandate for missions will be under review. Mission and church strategists will be studying all the indicators of change and reinterpreting directions for mission in the 21st century. Unprecedented migrations, wrenching political and economic shifts, and staggering natural disasters overwhelm conventional models of change. Indeed, the forces of globalization may seem to flatten historic barriers while granting new access and opportunity for fresh Kingdom service from a global church. The missiological relevance of ethnic and cultural difference is often disputed or ignored in the emerging multicultural agendas of a global sending church.

This year's ISFM meetings will reassess the nature of frontier mission to 'unreached peoples' by examining the intersection of ethnicity, globalization and Kingdom mission. What are the emerging social, cultural and institutional dynamics on these frontiers? Are they eroding or hardening under the impact of globalization? What new access is granted to Kingdom-mission amidst this turbulence?

Speakers will address the global, religious, anthropological, missiological and biblical dimensions of these frontier dynamics. Plenary sessions, formal responses and interaction from the floor will combine in addressing this timely subject.

International Society for Frontier Missiology

The purpose of the International Society for Frontier Missiology (ISFM) is the promotion of thinking and sharing on an international level in the area of missiology oriented toward a concern for the unfinished task. While we do not feel it is possible to be dogmatic about the precise meaning of “the Great Commission,” we do believe we should try to evaluate the various possible meanings of “the unfinished task.” We hope, furthermore, to evaluate goal statements both short- and long-term. The ISFM also seeks to promote intergenerational dialogue between senior and junior mission leaders and to cultivate an international fraternity of thought (involving both mission and church leaders) in the development of frontier missiology.
